Personnel changes cost US companies millions of dollars each year. The costs of missing work days, interviewing candidates, reviewing resumes, checking references, filling out papers, and training new employees are far more expensive, in most cases, than creating a work environment where employees are happy and want to stay. If you are worried about lower employee morale at your company, here are some things you can do to keep employees happy and productive.
Give reward. Even small gifts can go a long way. Rewards increase morale and increase productivity. Explore the possibilities of various prize structures including: holiday bonuses, birthday week bonuses, sales bonuses, anniversary bonuses and educational bonuses.
Plan retreats for employees. Time to relax and get to know your peers in a social setting increases teamwork and productivity again. However, not many people want to spend a weekend away from their family even if you put them in a nice hotel. I think one day the employee resigns twice a year. Bring a healthy snack once a week such as a fruit basket, small salad, or baking sheet. Flexible schedule. If possible, provide employees with a schedule that fits their needs and reduce travel time.
Gym membership. Paying for their gym membership or paying a Pilates coach to come in once a week after work are great ways to encourage employees to stay in shape.
